§ 18. The treasurer.

  • (a)

    The city treasurer shall be, ex officio, treasurer of the police and firemen's benefit fund and all powers and duties vested by law in the town treasurer shall be powers and duties of the city treasurer. The treasurer shall have the custody and disbursement of all funds belonging to the city, except as otherwise provided by this charter, and the treasurer shall keep an accurate record of all moneys received and disbursed.

    (b)

    The treasurer shall give bond for the faithful performance of the treasurer's duty as such treasurer to the acceptance of the board of finance in such amount as such board shall, from time to time, determine.

    (c)

    Whenever a vacancy in the position of the deputy treasurer shall exist, the treasurer shall recommend a candidate qualified by the personnel director to serve as deputy treasurer, a permanent staff position, with the consent and approval of the city council, who, in the treasurer's absence or inability to perform the treasurer's duties, shall perform all of the duties of the treasurer and shall give bond for the faithful performance of duty in the same manner as the treasurer.
