§ 18-3. Zoning board of appeals; appointment, terms.

  • (a)

    The zoning board of appeals of the City and Town of Bristol shall consist of five (5) regular members and three (3) alternate members. The present regular and alternate members of such board shall continue to hold office for their respective terms. Upon the expiration of the term of any regular or alternate member, the mayor shall nominate, and the city council shall, within sixty (60) days, after such nomination, confirm his/her successor, who shall serve for a period of three (3) years. In the event of a vacancy, the mayor shall nominate and the city council shall appoint a successor for the vacating member for the unexpired portion of his/her term.

    (b)

    If a regular member of a zoning board of appeals is absent, he may designate an alternate from the panel of alternates to act in his place for the entire meeting. If he fails to make such designation or if he is disqualified, the chairman of the board shall designate one (1) alternate from such panel for each matter on the agenda, choosing alternates in rotation so that they shall act as nearly equal a number of times as possible. If any alternate is not available in accordance with such rotation, such fact shall be recorded in the minutes of the meeting.
