§ 14-30. Stopping, standing and parking prohibited in certain places.

  • No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with law or the directions of a police officer or traffic-control device, in any of the following places:

    (1)

    On a sidewalk.

    (2)

    In front of a public or private driveway.

    (3)

    Within an intersection.

    (4)

    Within ten (10) feet of a fire hydrant.

    (5)

    On a crosswalk.

    (6)

    Within twenty-five (25) feet of a crosswalk.

    (7)

    Within twenty-five (25) feet of an intersection or corner.

    (8)

    In any established fire lane, whether on public or private property, whenever officially so designated:

    a.

    On any public street or roadway, said lane should be designated as a "no parking fire lane" by the traffic authority of the city and marked and posted as such in a manner as will reasonably come to the attention of persons likely to park motor vehicles in such area.

    b.

    On any privately owned property, the owners thereof may designate any portions of their property as a "no parking fire lane" and with the permission of the police board of the city, mark and post such "no parking fire lane" with such official marking as such board will prescribe.

    c.

    However, fire lanes so designated shall also be open for use by fire apparatus, police vehicles or any public safety vehicle or emergency vehicle answering any emergency call or while on official business.

    d.

    The penalty for violation of fire lanes or parking therein shall be a fine of fifty dollars ($50.00).

    (9)

    Within twenty-five (25) feet of a stop sign or traffic signal.

    (10)

    Alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction when stopping, standing or parking would obstruct traffic.

    (11)

    At any place where signs prohibit stopping, standing or parking.

    (12)

    Within the limits of a bus stop or taxi stand.

    (13)

    Upon any street or highway longer than is reasonable so as to interfere with the general use by the public of all parts of such street.

    (14)

    Wherever there is an established curb bordering the travelway of any street or highway, on any portion of property owned or controlled by the city between such curbing and walk area or designated tree border.
